I enjoy infusing my work with a sense of humanity and intricate detail, and watercolor is an ideal medium for this creative process. The distinctive qualities of watercolor, especially its fluidity and transparency, enable me to express a wide range of emotions and subtle nuances that are often hard to capture in other media, such as oil. Oil painting also involves managing time constraints. With watercolor, I can quickly achieve the desired effect, and often when I enter my studio, I can lay down my ideas rapidly without much preparation.
The way watercolor moves and interacts with paper creates an organic quality that reflects the complexities of human experience. Each brushstroke can convey a wide range of emotions, from the whisper of a gentle breeze to the bold declaration of a vivid sunset. I am captivated not only by the visual effects achievable through layering and blending but also by the medium's natural unpredictability. This unpredictability fosters a dialogue between the artist and the artwork, where each decision can lead to unexpected — and often stunning — results. Most watercolor artists are experienced in this process.
In my artistic practice, I use watercolor to explore a range of topics, from personal stories and social issues to reflections on nature. The transparency of watercolor allows me to layer ideas, where one theme can subtly emerge from another, adding depth to the meaning. This layering mirrors the complexity of human emotions and relationships, helping me explore themes of connection, vulnerability, and resilience.

Furthermore, the subtle interplay of light and shadow in watercolor adds emotional depth to my work. The way light passes through the translucent layers can evoke feelings of hope or sadness, depending on how I choose to manipulate the medium. This ability to capture fleeting moments and emotions is what draws me to watercolor as my primary form of expression.
Ultimately, my goal is to create pieces that connect with viewers on a personal level, inviting them to engage with the work and reflect on their own experiences. By using watercolor, I aim to bridge the gap between the artwork and the audience, fostering a sense of connection and shared humanity. In this way, my artistic journey is not just about making visually appealing pieces; it is about exploring the depths of what it means to be human and expressing that essence through the fluid and expressive qualities of watercolor.
Tranquil Cottage in Bloom
By Eric Buechel
In a silent glade where wildflowers sway,
A cottage of whispers welcomes the day.
With walls draped in ivy and a thatched roof above,
It holds the heart gently, a serene little love.
The sun spreads its gold on spring's blooming petals,
While birds sing their songs, a sweet instrumental.
Each window a painting, each door an embrace,
In this peaceful haven, the world finds its place.
Under the old oak, where shadows lightly dance,
Memories linger, both bright and enhanced.
Laughter like echoes, in the breeze they take flight,
Each moment a treasure, a star in the night.
Listen closely as colors are skillfully arranged,
A symphony unfolds, with nature engaged.
In the twilight's stillness, when stars softly bloom,
The heart finds its solace in this tranquil room.
Yet time, like a river, flows ever so fast,
With seasons that change, and shadows that cast.
But the love in this cottage will forever remain,
In the hearts that remember, it will never wane.
So here in this bloom, where the soul finds its peace,
Let worries dissolve, let the heart find release.
For in this small haven, where dreams intertwine,
A tranquil cottage awaits, where the spirit can shine.
