The Treasures Water Brings: By Eric Buechel
I once again chose to utilize my technique of non-static impressionism, a method that emphasizes the fluidity of perception by intentionally blurring the image. This approach serves to highlight the interplay of color, tone, and composition, creating a vibrant tapestry that draws the viewer into the scene. By softening the images, I aim to achieve a sense of harmony within the artwork, allowing each element to shine equally and interact with one another in a balanced manner. This work began during a memorable hike to a stunning state park in Tennessee known as Falls Creek Falls, a place renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and serene atmosphere. I was accompanied by my brother and son, both of whom share my appreciation for the great outdoors.
As we ventured along the picturesque trails, I noticed two young women walking barefoot through the crystal-clear water, reveling in the warmth of an August day. Their carefree demeanor and laughter resonated with the vibrant surroundings, and they could easily have been mistaken for sisters, so closely did they resemble one another. They were situated about 30 yards from the top of the majestic waterfall, where the water is shallow and flows swiftly toward the precipice, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The sound of the rushing water combined with the rustling leaves and the distant calls of birds created a symphony of nature that further captivated my attention.
I've always been an observant individual, keenly aware of the people and moments around me, constantly searching for stories to capture on paper or canvas. This intrinsic curiosity has been a defining trait for as long as I can remember. My wife, Kathy, often prefers to take the wheel during our drives, primarily because my fascination with the world outside the car window can lead to frequent distractions. During these journeys, I find my gaze drawn to the clouds, their ever-changing forms and colors igniting my imagination and inspiring my artistic endeavors.
Returning to the painting and the specific reasons I chose non-static impressionism for this particular work, it is essential to recognize that this style goes beyond merely emphasizing the visual aspect. My intention was to create an immersive experience that invites the viewer to become part of the unfolding story. By deliberately removing certain details that might distract from the overall narrative, I encourage the audience to engage their imagination and fill in the gaps. This interactive quality enhances the storytelling aspect of the piece, allowing each viewer to interpret the scene in their own unique way.
In many instances, the artist assumes the role of a storyteller, guiding the audience through a pre-defined narrative. However, in this case, I aspire for the audience to take a more active role in the storytelling process. I find comfort in relinquishing control of the narrative, allowing the viewers to project their own experiences and emotions onto the work. This type of artistic expression naturally achieves that dynamic, fostering a deeper connection between the artwork and its audience. It is precisely this collaborative spirit that I cherish, which is why I find immense joy in creating these impressionistic pieces that capture fleeting moments and evoke a sense of shared experience.
Walking barefoot in a stream
By Eric Buechel
In the cradle of the morning light, I wander where the waters gleam, With each step, the
world feels right, Walking barefoot in a stream.
The pebbles dance beneath my feet, A gentle touch, a soft embrace, The current sings,
a melody sweet, As I lose myself in nature's grace.
I tread where cascading waters fall, A symphony of splashes bright, With every heartbeat,
I enthrall, The spirit of the purest flight.
Ripples whisper secrets low, In the shimmering, sunlit sheen, I find a peace the world won't
know, In the heart of this serene scene.
Barefoot on stones, my worries cease, In the stream's embrace, I feel alive, Each moment here,
a breath of peace, In the water's song, my soul will thrive.
So let me wander, let me roam, Where the wild waters weave and gleam, For in this place,
I've found my home, Walking barefoot in a stream.
Friends Enjoying a Stream
By Eric Buechel
In the gentle hush of a sunlit glade, Where whispers of water in ripples
cascade, Laughter dances on the breeze so light, As friends gather 'neath the
warm golden light.
They toss pebbles, creating a splash, Each flicker of joy, a moment to stash.
With stories shared, and secrets revealed, In the heart of the woods, their spirits
are healed.
The trees stand tall, like guardians wise, Watching over them under vast,
open skies. Dragonflies dart in a shimmering flight, While the sun dips low, painting
day into night.
With sandwiches packed and laughter that rings, They savor the beauty that
friendship brings. As the stars twinkle softly, the night draws near, In the warmth of their
bond, they hold each other dear.
So here's to the moments, both simple and grand, To the joy of togetherness,
hand in hand. In the heart of the stream, where memories gleam, Friends find their solace,
their shared, cherished dream.
