The Ladybug and the Dragonfly
by Eric Buechel
In the hush of the Amazon, where shadows play,
A ladybug wandered, bright as the day.
With spots like the stars, she clung to a leaf,
While the rain drummed a tune, a soft, steady grief.
The dragonfly darted, a shimmer in flight,
His wings like a whisper, slicing through night.
He danced on the droplets, a delicate waltz,
While the river below sang of nature’s pulse.
The rain not letting up, a curtain of gray,
Veiled the lush canopy where creatures at bay,
Watched the world wash anew, in the rhythm of time,
Each drop a reminder, each moment a rhyme.
“Come, ladybug,” called the dragonfly bold,
“Let’s journey together, through the damp and the cold.
For in this wild tempest, we’ll find our own song,
In the heart of the storm, where the brave still belong.”
So they ventured together, through thickets and mire,
With laughter like raindrops, igniting the fire.
In the midst of the downpour, their spirits took flight,
Two travelers bound by the magic of night.
And though the rain poured, relentless and strong,
They found in each other where they both belong.
For in the Amazon’s heart, where the wild rivers flow,
The ladybug and dragonfly danced in the glow.
