Best of Show: “Mystical Morning” by Eric Buechel

Plateau Creative Arts Center and The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade:

Many thanks to the 50 talented artists who submitted a remarkable total of 93 pieces of artwork for consideration. Each submission reflects the creativity, dedication, and passion of the artists involved, showcasing a diverse range of styles, techniques, and themes that enrich our cultural landscape. We are truly grateful for their contributions, which not only highlight individual talent but also foster a sense of community and dialogue among artists and art lovers alike. A huge thank you is due to our esteemed Juror and Judge, Carl Gombert, who is a distinguished professor of art at Maryville College in Tennessee. His expertise and discerning eye for artistry were instrumental in the decision-making process, as he graciously accepted all 93 submissions into the Fine Arts Show, providing each artist with the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience.

Professor Gombert shared a poignant reflection during the selection process, stating, “Years ago I heard a classical pianist explain his belief that every musical performance was a gift given to the world. It occurred to me then, and I still believe it to be true, that the same can be said of visual art. Art exhibited on the walls of galleries such as this are gifts given to each and every viewer, inviting them to engage, reflect, and connect with the emotions and stories embedded within each piece. Just as a pianist pours their heart and soul into every note, artists invest their unique perspectives and experiences into their creations, offering viewers a glimpse into their world. This exhibition serves as a testament to the power of art to inspire, provoke thought, and evoke feelings, creating a shared space where we can all appreciate the beauty and complexity of human expression. It is an honor to witness the dedication of these artists and to celebrate their contributions to our vibrant artistic community.” EB

Comments by Carl Gombert: Best of Show - "Mystical Morning" By Eric Buechel

"Initially, I was inclined to give this award to the painting titled Queen Elizabeth I for it’s obvious (and larger) visual impact. But the longer I sat with these works, the more this painting grew on me. It combines masterful technique with stunning composition. The reduction of the image to a complementary color harmony (blue and orange) is subtle but effective".

Judge Gombert also wrote this about your Queen Piece:

Queen Elizabeth I

"A technical tour de force. Gorgeous surface, masterful drawing and effective use of a restricted palette".

Mystical Morning

By Eric Buechel

In the hush of dawn's embrace,

Whispers of the night still trace,

Softly glimmers the dew-kissed grass,

As shadows of the stars slowly pass.

A tapestry of colors unfold,

Golden hues and crimson bold,

Birds awaken with a gentle song,

In this realm where dreams belong.

The mist dances on the tranquil lake,

As nature stirs, the stillness breaks,

Each ray of light a brush of grace,

Painting peace in this sacred space.

With every breath, the world feels new,

A mystical morning, a wondrous view,

Embrace the magic, let your spirit soar,

In the beauty of the dawn, forevermore.

Ode to Queen Elizabeth I

By Eric Buechel

In the age of gold, where the sun did rise, casting its warm and radiant

glow upon the lands, illuminating the valleys and mountains alike,

A maiden queen, with fire in her eyes, her spirit ablaze with the passion of youth

and the wisdom of ages, stood as a beacon of hope and strength for her people.

Upon the throne, she stood so tall, a symbol of resilience and grace, her posture

reflecting the unwavering determination that resided within her heart,

With a crown of thorns, she conquered all, a testament to the struggles she faced and

the sacrifices made, each thorn representing a battle fought, a victory won, and the burdens

she bore for the sake of her kingdom's prosperity and peace.
