A Goddess Circled in Green
by Eric Buechel
Once upon a twilight dreary,
In a grove both dark and eerie,
Sat a goddess, fair and queenly,
Cloaked in verdant shades so keenly.
Her eyes, like emeralds, gleamed with light,
In the shadows of the night,
While the whispers of the trees
Sang of ancient mysteries.
Goddess, I called, my voice a plea,
Why dost thou linger here with me?
In this realm of whispered sighs,
Where the moonlight softly dies?
She turned, with grace both slow and grand,
Her fingers brushed the emerald strand,
And with a voice like softest breeze,
Spoke of love that never flees.
Mortals seek what they cannot find,
In the depths of the heart and mind.
Yet I dwell in this sacred place,
Bound to nature’s soft embrace.
In the green, my spirit dances,
In the shadows, fate romances.
What you seek is lost in time,
A fleeting thought, a distant rhyme.
Tell me, goddess, of the night,
Of the stars that shine so bright.
In my dreams, I see them clearly,
Yet in waking, they disappear.
She smiled, a glimmer in her eye,
Stars are but the tears we cry,
For every wish that fades away,
A memory that longs to stay.
Then grant me but a single boon,
To hold the light, to touch the moon!
For in this life, I feel so small,
A shadow cast, a fleeting thrall.
With a sigh, she waved her hand,
And the grove began to expand.
Take this gift, but heed my plea,
True power lies in what you see.
So I wandered, lost in thought,
In the lessons she had taught.
A goddess circled in green,
In every leaf, her grace is seen.
Though the night may cloak the day,
In the heart, her light will stay.
And as the stars begin to fade,
In the green, my fears are laid.
