The Gypsy of Paris, La Esmeralda
by Eric Buechel
In the heart of Paris, where shadows dance,
A maiden named Esmeralda took her chance.
With raven hair that kissed the night,
And emerald eyes, a beacon of light.
She twirled through the streets, a spirit so free,
Her laughter like music, a sweet melody.
The moon whispered secrets, the stars sang her name,
For in every alley, she ignited a flame.
The cobblestones echoed her footsteps so light,
As she wove through the throng, a vision of night.
With a heart full of dreams and a soul full of fire,
She captured the hearts of those who dared aspire.
But shadows loomed heavy, as darkness will creep,
For the world can be cruel, and the night can be deep.
A judge with a heart cold as winter's breath,
Sought to bind her in chains, to deliver her death.
Yet La Esmeralda, with courage ablaze,
Stood tall against fate in a perilous haze.
With her dance, she spun tales of love and of woe,
Of the beauty in freedom, the strength in the flow.
The bells of Notre-Dame rang out in despair,
As the city held its breath, caught in the snare.
But love found a way, in a heart brave and true,
For a soldier named Phoebus, his spirit anew.
He saw in her eyes the wildness of dreams,
A world full of wonder, not as it seems.
Together they fought, for the right to be free,
In a tale woven tight with sweet harmony.
But fate is a tapestry, frayed at the seams,
And love, like a whisper, can vanish like dreams.
Esmeralda, the gypsy, with heart torn asunder,
Left behind memories, a city of wonder.
Now, in the twilight, her spirit still roams,
through the streets of Paris, she calls them her homes.
For though she has vanished, her legend will stay,
In the hearts of the dreamers, who dance night and day.
So remember her story, the gypsy so bold,
With courage and passion, her tale will be told.
In the whispers of night, in the glow of the stars,
La Esmeralda lives on, beyond the world's bars.
