Ellie's Christmas Dream: The North Pole
by Eric Buechel
Ellie, a small, ivory-colored elephant, enjoyed a wonderful life in the Ivory Coast. She had many friends to play with, including chimpanzees, African buffalo, hippopotamuses, and a vulture named Biscuit. Together, they roamed the lush grasslands, playing games and sharing laughter. Yet Ellie held a secret dream. Whenever she heard stories about the North Pole, where fluffy rain fell like soft, round feathers, her heart brimmed with excitement. She imagined herself sliding down white, fluffy hills and making white, fluffy feather balls with her friends. This was no ordinary rain; it was magical, as Biscuit described. It was called snow, and Ellie longed to experience it even more.
One sunny day, while resting under a big baobab tree, Ellie shared her dream with her friends. “I want to go to the North Pole and see the fluffy rain; Biscuit calls it snow!” she exclaimed. The chimpanzees swung from the branches, the buffalo nodded, and Biscuit flapped his wings in excitement. “Let’s help you get there!” said Biscuit. “We can fly to the North Pole!” Ellie’s eyes sparkled with joy. "But how will we get there?" she inquired, her trunk swaying with excitement.
Her friend, the African Buffalo named Little Tank, replied that it would be simple—through a dream. All we need to do is settle near the little lake, under one of the big trees, and take our nap just like we always do. But before falling asleep, we all need to say the magic words, "Frostlandia," three times.
With a plan in place, Ellie and her friends gathered supplies for their adventure. They packed snacks, cozy blankets, and a large world map. Biscuit would navigate, leading them through the skies. As they drifted off to sleep, they took off, leaving the warm sun of the Ivory Coast behind. Soon, they were gliding through fluffy clouds. Ellie felt the cool breeze on her skin, her heart pounding with excitement. They soared over mountains and rivers, and after what felt like a magical eternity, they finally saw the glistening white expanse of the North Pole.
When they landed, Ellie’s eyes widened in wonder. The ground was blanketed in soft, fluffy snow, just as she had imagined! She jumped and twirled, feeling the snow beneath her feet. Her friends joined in, and soon they were all playing together, making snowballs and building a snow elephant. As the sun began to set, Ellie looked up at the sky and saw the most beautiful sight—fluffy rain began to fall, twinkling like tiny stars. “It’s magical!” she squealed with delight. Ellie and her friends danced in the fluffy rain, laughing and playing until the stars lit up the night sky.
After a day filled with joy and adventure, it was time to head home. Ellie felt a little sad to leave, but her heart was full of wonderful memories. As they flew back to the Ivory Coast, she realized her dream had come true and that she had experienced the magic of the North Pole. When they finally landed back at their grassy home, Ellie shared her adventure with her family and friends. “The North Pole is amazing, and I can’t wait to visit again!” she said with a big smile.
From that day on, Ellie knew dreams could come true, especially when shared with friends. Each year around Christmas, she would look up at the sky, remembering the fluffy rain and the magic of her unforgettable journey with her friends.
