The Green Beetle on the Beach
By Eric Buechel
There once was a beetle, so green and so bright, He rolled on the sand, what a curious sight! With colorful shells all around him galore, He danced with the waves, oh, what fun to explore! He found a pink conch, and a blue scallop too, A yellowish starfish that waved just for you. He gathered them up, with a pinch and a poke, Then laughed at the seagulls who squawked and who spoke. He strutted and tumbled, with a flip and a spin, While crabs all around him, they joined in the din. “Hey, look at me!” he shouted with glee, “I’m the king of this beach, as happy as can be!”
But a breeze blew in, with a mischievous grin, It sent the shells flying, oh where would they spin? The beetle just chuckled, “Come back, my dear friends! We’ll dance on the shore until daylight ends!” So if you’re at the beach, and you see something green, It just might be a green beetle, the happiest beetle you've ever seen. With colorful shells in a whimsical heap, He’s the jester of sand, where the ocean waves sweep!
