"Professor Wiggly And The Mystery Beetle"

by Eric Buechel

Once upon a time in a small town called Bugsville, there lived an eccentric entomologist named Professor Wiggly. He was known for his wild hair, oversized glasses, and his obsession with beetles. One sunny afternoon, while rummaging through his cluttered lab, he discovered a peculiar beetle he had never seen before. This beetle was unlike any other specimen. It had a shiny, iridescent shell that changed colors depending on how the light hit it. Professor Wiggly was thrilled and immediately named it the "Mystery Beetle." He decided to hold a town meeting to reveal his discovery.

The townsfolk gathered in the Bugsville Community Center, buzzing with excitement. Professor Wiggly stood at the front, holding the Mystery Beetle in a glass jar. "Ladies and gentlemen," he announced dramatically, "I present to you the most extraordinary beetle in the world! We shall discover what kind it is together!" The crowd gasped, and Mrs. Bumble, the town gossip, shouted, "Is it a ladybug? I’ve always wanted a ladybug!" "No, no!" Professor Wiggly replied, shaking his head. "This is far more unique!"

As he spoke, the Mystery Beetle started to wiggle and jiggle inside the jar. Suddenly, it did a spectacular somersault, landing perfectly on its feet. The crowd burst into laughter. "Maybe it’s a circus beetle!" shouted Timmy, the town's mischievous kid. Professor Wiggly chuckled, "It could be! But we need to figure out what kind it really is!" Just then, the beetle began to change colors, flashing from green to blue to red. The audience gasped again, and old Mr. Grumble, who had been dozing off, woke up with a start. "Is it a disco beetle? Because I’m ready to boogie!"

The townsfolk started arguing excitedly about what the beetle might be. "Maybe it’s a superhero beetle!" suggested Lucy, the town librarian. "It could be here to save us from boredom!" "Nonsense!" shouted Farmer Fred. "It’s obviously a ninja beetle, sneaking around at night!" "Or perhaps it’s an alien beetle from outer space!" added young Timmy, eyes wide with imagination. Professor Wiggly, trying to regain control, said, "Let’s not jump to conclusions! We need to examine it more carefully!"

Just then, the Mystery Beetle seized the chaos and flipped the lid of the jar open with a powerful leap. It zipped around the room, leaving a trail of sparkles behind. The townsfolk gasped and chased after it, creating a wild scene of laughter and shouts. Mrs. Bumble tripped over her own feet and fell into a pile of chairs, while Mr. Grumble tried to catch it with his hat, only to end up wearing it backward. As the beetle darted around, it finally flew out of an open window and into the bright blue sky. The crowd stopped, panting and laughing, watching it disappear..

Professor Wiggly sighed, "Well, it seems the Mystery Beetle is a master of escape. Perhaps its true identity will remain a mystery forever." The townsfolk, still giggling, nodded in agreement. They realized that the joy of the chase and the laughter they shared were far more important than discovering what kind of beetle it was. From that day on, the townsfolk of Bugsville often reminisced about the day the Mystery Beetle brought them together, proving that sometimes, the best stories come from the mysteries we never solve. And who knows? Maybe the beetle was indeed a superhero, saving them from the dullness of everyday life!!
