Spotting The Queen
I just finished another painting in my honey bee series. I've used my mixed media technique to create this artwork. For those not familiar with mixed media, it's artwork composed from a combination of different media or materials. The painting was started with a watercolor base and gouache. Once this process was to my satisfaction I then layered a coat of transparent acrylic over the surface to protect the watercolor. After a full day of drying I began to glaze over the surface with many layers of oil pigment mixed with wax. This technique of transparent layers over the surface changes the chroma and hue of the painting and causes a luminous quality to the painting as well as depth to it's surface.
